The musicianship on display here is faultless

Jam music has always been more of a stateside phenomenon than it has in the UK.

Why that is remains unclear; perhaps that’s due to the punk ethos that has been infused in much of British music in recent years or it could be due to America’s larger culture of stadium shows. Regardless, The Jammys has become an annual event marking jam music since 2000.

As you can imagine it’s a hit and miss affair. The North Mississippi Allstars prove that jam music can be an exhilarating thing as the band, who can count Oasis and Bernard Butler amongst their fans, perform with Kris Myers. Contributions from Ryan Adams and Perry Farrell also impress, but those who think that Les Claypool (ex-Primus) is too eccentric for his own good won’t be impressed by his appearance wearing what appears to be a pig mask.

The musicianship on display here is faultless, if a touch too self-indulgent for all tastes.
