Good pop music
Telekinesis - 12 Desperate Straight Lines

The second Telekinesis album suggests that Michael Lerner’s gift for hooky, college-radio friendly indie-pop shows no signs of abating. Even when his songs are lyrically dark (‘I Cannot Love You’ and ‘Car Crash’), they’re sugar-coated with an upbeat, high-energy gloss.

If The O.C. or Veronica Mars were still showing, Telekinesis would be on the soundtrack every single week. Original? Not even a little. But ‘50 Ways’ seriously rocks, and there’s an ace glam stomp to final track ‘Gotta Get It Right Now’. Lerner’s not breaking any rules, but he knows how to write good pop music, so who cares?
