Taken By Trees – East Of Eden

"...hushed, organic and very very lovely."

There are few artists who would decide to travel the globe to record their music. But Victoria Bergsman, ex-Concretes and the subdued voice behind Peter, Bjorn and John’s ‘Young Folks’, chose to record the follow-up to the minimalist beauty of her debut in Pakistan.

Wide-eyed and aware, ‘East of Eden’ is awash with blissful instrumentals constructed with flutes, drums and traditional Pakistani rhythms such as the haunting ‘To Lose Someone’ and the luscious ‘Watch the Waves’. But it’s Bergman’s gentle, slightly bruised vocals that remain at the fore and despite recording in and being inspired by such a volatile environment, she’s succeeded in creating something hushed, organic and very very lovely.
