More than capable of delivering

What with Dev Hynes swapping the trashy, neon-flecked facemelt riffs that comprised Test Icicles for a far more refined, alt. Country direction, Lightspeed Champion may today be stripped back to four members, but as Dev takes to the stage and chimes out the first bars to ‘Galaxy Of The Lost’, its clear his current touring band are more than capable of delivering.

Sounding as though someone’s sneaked his debut over the PA, its clear his current tour schedule is paying off. It’s a set comprised mainly of ‘..Lavender Bridge’ highlights, as well as a peppering of new material. ‘Happy Birthday’ sounds spikier than his previous efforts, (could Dev’s recent claims of new material “sounding like the Strokes” be true?), wherein Hynes sings “I’d rather watch movies/than go out with your friends”, proving the bright lights haven’t changed him an aeon. Where Lightspeed will go from here is anyone’s guess (as anyone whose followed his musical back catalogue will testify), but it’s sounding intriguing in the Pet Sounds Arena today.
