Some might expect pure speed and ferocity from grime, but the genre has become much wider and deeper since its inception, opening up a dark ocean of experimentation, with stuff like SD Laika, Visionist, MssingNo, Fatima Al Qadiri, Murlo and more all trawling the sea bed.
Slackk – aka Paul Lynch, the man behind the now defunct grimetapes.com – is an archivist, innovator and producer.
His latest offering ‘Palm Tree Fire’ won’t blow your knees off, but it certainly creates a thick atmosphere. These short but frequent chops of minimal grime spliced with Middle and Far Eastern instrumentation make for an absorbing listen full of rich melodies and foreboding space.
