More Transworld Sport than Chariots Of Fire
Siinai - Olympic Games

With a biblical mount for a moniker, and a debut album that aims to capture the ‘almost religious’ feel of the ancient Olympics, Finnish four-piece Siinai clearly aren’t afraid to set their sights rather high, but all too frequently here, they’re guilty of over-reaching. Granted, tracks with titles like ‘Anthem 3’, ‘Victory’ and ‘Mt Olympos’ (sic) could only ever be exercises in overstatement, but they’re let down by trite hooks and tacky synth washes that sound more Transworld Sport than Chariots Of Fire. ‘Munich 1972’, with its Motorik groove and squalls of sound is a standout, but little else here really hits the spot.
