Robyn – Be Mine

A devious crossover creation

2007’s “pop sensation” Robyn returns with another slickly produced single.

Here we get tense, stabbing string and pulsing beats, which is fine until her polished pop voice comes in. No matter how much sass and attitude she tries to give it, Be Mine is another incongruous mix of safe pop and edgy dance that seems too schematic to be something you could love. At the end of the song, the music suddenly stops and Robyn’s voice quickly cuts out like someone had cut the power. A devious crossover creation with a chillingly perfect pop robot at the helm.
