A whirl of delicate dream pop
Purity Ring - Shrines

The Canadian boy-girl duo’s debut is a whirl of delicate dream pop, fuelled by Corin Roddick’s chopped hip-hop beats and Megan James’ coquettish vocal stylings. With a penchant for asinine titles, the magical ‘Lofticries’ sounds like Beth Gibbons fronting a mellow Gold Panda tune. If there are moments on ‘Shrines’ which merely skim the surface of emotional range, the gorgeous ‘Amenamy’ is smartly embellished with Eastern mysticism, while the closing ‘Shuck’ is an elegant shimmer of paranormal electronica.
