“I hereby present you with this hair follicle of an ancient pony, who was once known to save children in distress.”
So slurs Aaron Funk, of Venetian Snares fame, in the first dazzling (albeit perplexing) track, 'Ancient Pony', on this eponymous debut Poemss album, a collaboration between Funk and Joanne Pollock.
The album presents itself as a project between two experimentalists, born out of shared dreams and reflections rather than something concrete, like a place or person.
The result is a brilliant and warped collection of sinister lullabies and dreamlike ballads in which Funk’s gravelly timbre jars against Pollock’s dreamy vocals in a beautifully nightmare-infused collision.
