It is odd that the sunny West Coast pop sound born by the sea in California in the 60’s, has spawned inheritors in the cooler climes of Northern Europe.
Back in the early 90’s you had Scottish bands like Teenage Fanclub and The Pastels, while today Scandinavia is leading the way in all things pop. On their latest single Swedish duo Pacific! take the glorious harmonies and radiant melodies of the West Coast and bolster it with 80’s electronics and dance rhythms to create a kind of uber-pop, that’s catchy though somewhat nauseating.
