Never boring
of Montreal - Daughter Of Cloud

Quickly following on from February’s ‘Paralytic Stalks’, Kevin Barnes and co. return with this their twelfth album - and it’s a bonkers ride. Seventeen tracks long and very proudly wearing its influences on its sleeve, ‘Daughter Of Cloud’ is a sex-filled, funky festival heavily indebted to Bowie’s mid-’70s output. With lyrics that can make you laugh out loud and beats that reach the feet, Barnes has managed a careful balance between sheer absurdity and moments of genius. Beautiful numbers such duet ‘Feminine Effects’ however do bring things back to earth while finale ‘Expecting To Fly’ proves a pitch-perfect sombre ending. Never boring.
