The musical equivalent of a coffee table book this is a poised, polished album of covers and collaborations spanning a decade. From the sultry country of an upbeat Dolly duet to the Erkya Badu-ish tones of the Q-Tip track it’s eclectic and a little bit eccentric but effective for all that.
An unlikely alliance with The Foo Fighters creates an atmospheric Astrud Gilberto vibe of yielding loungey jazz. Elsewhere the close vocal harmonies with Gillian Welch are particularly strong and a version of Roxy Music’s ‘More Than This’ is utterly charming. Groundbreaking? Perhaps not, but it’s captivating and languorously likeable.
