Nick Cave is back with The Bad Seeds once more and he has hung onto that new lease of life unleashed by last year’s Grinderman project.
Far from the ponderous Biblical references of his previous Bad Seeds record, Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! sees Cave putting the fun back in funeral with his contemporary retelling of the miracle of Lazarus. The garage rock rhythms strut over sawing guitars while The Bad Seeds chant the chorus like a chain gang breaking rocks on a football terrace. Cave’s music was hardly dead, but this is definitely a resurrection of sorts.
