Largely tried-and-tested
Moby - Destroyed

Moby was essential once. Then he became overblown. Now he just sounds like a weedier, wheezier, vocoded Pet Shop Boy. Driven by his on-tour insomnia, ‘Destroyed’ captures the stagnation of a sleep-deprived mind. Keeping things largely tried-and-tested, his characteristic soul diva vocal “mmmms” its way to prominence on ‘The Right Thing’ in a long, pointless battle with a meretricious angel choir, but there is salvation in the angry strings of ‘Victoria Lucas’ and the AM introspection of the album’s final four tracks. A grandiose, instrumental finale, they’re a reminder of the divinity that Moby was once capable of.
