A new single from Moby is usually accompanied by the sound of critical knives a-sharpening but with the release of Alice, like a concerned mum preparing for her suicidal son’s return from hospital, there may be a hasty hiding of the kitchen drawer contents.
Substantially different from much of his previous output, Alice is a glitchy, bass-heavy trip down a hip-hop rabbit hole featuring brilliant dagga-hazed rhymes from Nigerian rap crew, 419 Squad. Sandwiched somewhere between later Massive Attack and Gorillaz, this is easily the best thing Moby has produced in years.
