Really quite lovely
Memoryhouse - The Slideshow Effect

They aren’t scuzzy enough to be shoegaze, or sufficiently synthy for chillwave, but the dream pop tag does Memoryhouse a decent service. This debut LP from the Canadian duo is really quite lovely - sometimes jangly, sometimes embellished with strings, sometimes even a little reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac. Singer Denise Nouvion fits this sound like slipper socks: she’s got a voice that could hush a wailing baby. The caveat? They could do with a couple more uptempo nuggets like ‘The Kids Were Wrong’, which comes off like a lost college radio hit from 1989. After all, there’s a fine line between soothing and soporific.
