‘Sovereign’ is the debut album from Canadian born Melody Klyman, a solo vocalist with a musically singed past.
The record boldly kick starts with the first single and title track. The slow rise of the first song signposts a flawless beginning to the album as Melody delivers her unequivocal lyrics, with Laurie Anderson meets Ace Of Base overtones. The slow beating of ‘Trigger Me’ and ‘Never Stay Away’ are empowered by intense choruses, stabilised by the exquisite soundscapes of Prodigy/Unkle producer Glen Nicholls. In ‘Caught’, Melody revisits her discreetly celebrated achievements in dance and electronica as she plays off Annie Lennoxesque, pulsating pop vocals against the trademark sharpened beats of Nicholls. ‘Sovereign’ is a solid start for a flourishing musician.
