Maths Class – Emporio Laser / Cushion Glamour

The cool kids are sure to love it

For the handful of people actually missing them, Brighton five-piece Maths Class have resurrected the spirit of Test Icicles and blended it with the “math rock” of the rather better Battles.

The first half of this double-A single, Emporio Laser, features a grating falsetto over grinding guitars, ferocious drums and emergency-signalling bleeps. It’s like electronic thrash metal, the kind of music to soundtrack the supposed Nu Rave fashion sequel, Nu Grave – where the blinding florescent colours are replaced by more familiar goth blacks. Cushion Glamour is less interesting but easier to listen to. Whatever, the cool kids are sure to love it.
