Malory – Pearl Diver

Shoegazing devotees come good

While 2007’s reunion of My Bloody Valentine may have represented the pinnacle of the shoegazing revival, a loyal few had never given up on it in the first place.

Take for example Germany’s Malory, who have now entered a fifteenth year in their perpetual pilgrimage to the temple of chorus pedals. ‘Pearl Diver’ may evoke the spirit of many a ’90s space rock or even electronica act (UNKLE is a notable influence on, say, ‘Tornado’), but their stubbornness could yet earn them a place alongside young pretenders such as M83.

And if the spine-tingling dub of the title track doesn’t get the dancefloor treatment, then someone is really missing a trick.
