From the outset, the debut single from Sweden’s Lykke Li’s props itself at the bar with a cool piano loop in its hand and a suggestive glint in its eye.
Add snapping handclaps and some seductive percussion and you’re already moving across the dancefloor, caught in the groove. Li’s sweet breathy voice sighs about “working up a sweat” – ironic as, amidst the laidback surroundings, she is the coolest customer in the place. The musical equivalent of a serene swan pedalling furiously underwater, this song oozes class. If Kylie’s indie period had been better it might have sounded like this.
