For those of you who enjoy a jaunt round the genres allow Lovvers to introduce you to “nu hardcore” – a confusing amalgamation of two “rave” prefixes but actually less enthralled with the mushy smile of dance music than the piercing yelps of hard US rock.
The Nottingham four-piece open their third single with a dark ominous thud that draws you into an off-kilter world of disjointed beats and scuzzy riffs. Singer Shaun Hencher shrieks like Marilyn Manson and the jagged guitars snare you into appreciating a previously ignored music. But if we’re inventing pigeonholes then let’s use math metal.
