How things change.
It wasn’t too long ago that Lightspeed Champion was Dev Hynes from noisy art metal trio Test Icicles – a band whose major purpose in life seemed to be deliberate antagonism thanks to their spiky songs and wildly erratic live shows. His new solo incarnation has certainly witnessed a softening of sound and this, his third single, has mellow whisky-sipping slide guitar licks instead of beer-swilling trashy riffs, alongside melancholy vocals from both himself and guest singer Emmy The Great. He still seems to value style over substance but this song is a step in the right direction.
