Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning

Smouldering electro-pop perfection

The 80s have returned – and this time it’s personal.

The decade of spandex, big shoulders and even bigger synthesiser inspired anthems has returned. Hot on the heels of Mystery Jets Miami Vice chic, New Zealander Ladyhawke makes her comeback with this glossy masterpiece, reminiscent of a time when a Snickers was a marathon and you could still stand at the football.

Mixing together the best parts of Kim Wilde, Grace Jones and, erm, The Bangles, “Paris Is Burning” is a riotous evocation of the city of love at night time. Coming across like Le Tigre produced by Trevor Horn, this is yet another inspired single from ANZAC art house Modular. A poptastic melody squelches over a thick and filthy bass line, with Ladyhawke warning that “Paris is screaming all night long”. Smouldering electro-pop perfection.
