If you don’t know what to expect of the debut EP from London-based producer L-Vis 1990, the bleeding ear adorning the cover should provide a clue.
Here are four tracks of loud, heavy bass music, decorated with high-pitched electronics, intense vocal cuts and maddening rhythms that are a throwback to the days of Detroit techno. But it’s not Nu Rave (he runs club nights featuring banners reading “New Rave RIP”) so let’s say it’s less saucy Ghetto Tech instead. It’s good but less regard for aural haemorrhaging and more for well-crafted noise, like Mr Wobble, would be preferable.
