Adam Bainbridge’s second collection as Kindness carries on from where his 2012 debut, ‘World, You Need A Change Of Mind’, left off: clever pop and taut funk, brass and bass over tickled cymbals and sharp snares.
It’s immediately likeable, but loses distinctiveness later on. ‘World Restart’ is a neck-loosening head-bobber that leads into ‘This Is Not About Us’, which uses busy background percussion over atmospheric keys in a manner not so dissimilar to ‘Unfinished Sympathy’.
‘Who Do You Love?’ with Robyn, is new jack swing in a cathedral, and gorgeous. Later tracks like ‘Geneva’ are undeniably pretty, but attentions may drift during the album’s slower second half.
7/10
