Back following his own, singular muse in the wake of Bloc Party’s ongoing hiatus, Kele Okereke once again retreats into a warm, welcoming world of sensual dance music, as second solo album ‘Trick’ throbs with shades of UK garage, throbbing R&B, and new wave synths.
Deep humming bass envelops his yearning voice – prayerful in lead single ‘Doubt’, hushed and lustful in ‘Like We Used To’, pressing and passionate in ‘Year Zero’, amorous in the seductive closer ‘Stay The Night’ – propelled by rhythms as insistent as the naked heart that pounds throughout.
Sweet, intimate and tender, ‘Trick’ is a tempting treat.
