Johnny Foreigner – You Can Do Better

The Birmingham band is still showing no desire to slow down...

As Johnny Foreigner’s first record as a four-piece, ‘You Can Do Better’ is everything you might expect with the addition of a second guitarist: an altogether mightier beast.

At times this set is ferociously louder than its triumphant predecessor, 2011’s ‘…vs Everything’. It also benefits from comparative brevity, coming in at seven songs and 15 minutes shorter than the record before it.

It’s this welcomed concision and heightened urgency that makes ‘You Can Do Better’ flow so well, making for an enjoyably cacophonous listen. Despite the Birmingham band’s mellower, more contemplative moments – as heard in the brilliantly titled ‘Riff Glitchard’ – Johnny Foreigner are, thankfully, still showing no desire to slow down.

7/10
