Johnny Foreigner – Our Bipolar Friends

Controlled alt. indie-punk chaos

This song sadly didn’t feature on Johnny Foreigner’s excellent ‘Arcs Across The City’ EP which was released at the end of last year.

But it’s here now, and should be one of many blasting highlights on their debut album proper, due in the summer.

‘Out Bipolar Friends’ is the Brum trio doing what they do best. Staccato beats and Dinosaur Jr buzz ‘n’ fuzz guitar crash together into controlled alt. indie-punk chaos that few bands do as well at the moment; underpinned by an acute sense of melody and Alexei and Kelly’s lopsided harmonies, which sound like a young British response to Francis & Deal.

B-side ‘The House Party Scene Is Killing You’ is a bit more restrained (for the first two minutes at least), bordering on mathy was there not brilliant pop band behind all the references to Kinsella brothers bands and other things we haven’t heard of. Fantastic stuff.
