Main man Joe Lean served his time as the drummer in The Pipettes so he knows the basic elements of pop but – bad puns aside – he’s got his sights set on more highbrow places. His stream-of-conscious lyrics and delivery are reminiscent of Maximo Park’s Paul Smith, while the Jing Jang Jong provides an effective if unmemorable mix of flaring art rock riffs and jangly pop harmonies. If the world starts crying out for another band as tedious as Razorlight, here’s a contender.
