Fun, but patchy
Jazzanova - Upside Down

The German nu-jazz collective gets the remix treatment. As is often the way with these things, ‘Upside Down’ is thrilling in small doses (these tracks being mainly intended for DJ use, after all) but trying over the long haul. And it’s not always successful, with the Atjazz remix of ‘Dance The Dance’ striding into coffee shop territory. Still, there’s good stuff too. Midnight Marauders turn ‘I Can See’ into a cut of slinky house, while the Ye:Solar version of the same track brings out the jazz in Jazzanova. Best of all is Motor City Drum Ensemble’s tech-tinged ‘Look What You’re Doing To Me’. Fun, but patchy.
