Japandroids – Post-Nothing

"...a worthwhile party album"

From opener ‘The Boys Are Leaving Town’, (an ironic play on the over the top and into no-man’s land air guitar ‘classic’) Japandroids assault the ears with a loud, furious barrage of tracks which set out to qualify the anti-intellectual statement of the album title.

Lyrics mostly deal with such lofty subjects as French kissing French girls and getting drunk, with a few brief moments of rather blunt philosophising (“We used to dream, now we worry about dying”). However, for all its deliberate dumbness and glorification of innocent debauchery, there is no hint of cockiness or arrogance in Post-Nothing.

It’s just a couple of guys having fun, not really caring about what people think of their music; this, coupled with the album’s sheer energy and catchiness, makes it a worthwhile party album.

7.5/10
