It would be easy to take the title of Jack de Marseille’s album as a Carl Craig-esque nod to Stevie Wonder.
However, that’s far from the plan here, as JdM seeks to commemorate two decades at the forefront of the techno scene in France with a studio record that looks back – but not too far. Nuyorican house (‘Spiritual Life’), European breaks (‘Voie Celeste’) and of course the Motor City itself (‘Energizer’, ‘Echospace’) all flash by, but the effect is often a little like looking at photographs of holidays that you weren’t actually on.
Nevertheless, at its dubbiest and toughest, ‘Inner Visions’ stands as a worthy milestone in Jack’s career.
