Having written off their previous single Early Evening as somewhat twee, it’s time for a re-evaluation of Kent three-piece It Hugs Back thanks to their latest single, the excellent Other Cars Go.
Starting with a quietly insistent rhythm and urgent whispered vocals the song builds to a fantastic feedback-soaked climax, whilst throwing in bits of weird psychedelia and stifled guitar squeals along the way. Imagine The Velvet Underground waking up and finding themselves on a sunny beach on the American West Coast with Teenage Fanclub giving them a head massage and you get an idea of the song’s wonderful mayhem.
