Ida Maria – Drive Away My Heart

Sylvia Plath fronting The Shins

Ida Maria is a Norwegian with a husky rock bellow, somewhere between Cerys Matthews (currently residing in indie disgrace after becoming undressed front page tabloid fodder) and The Duke Spirit’s Leila Moss.

Drive Away My Heart is an uplifting, melodic indie song that ends up attempting to cheer the party up after Maria’s bleak, despairing lyrics. “Leave me bleeding on the floor / Drive away my heart’s core” she sings while the guitars jangle playfully and the drums seem like they’re on a speedy Sunday drive in the hills. Think Sylvia Plath fronting The Shins.
