A full-bodied set of bass-balanced house, ‘Blurred’ shows that the album format is nothing to be scared of when, like Michael Dodman (AKA Huxley), hot 12”s have previously been your thing.
Bass comes jelly-like from the underground upwards, with Yasmin leading the vocal potential on ‘Say My Name’ and Roger Sanchez adding his two cents’ worth to ‘Callin’ under his S-Man guise. Femme appears too, on album-preview track ‘Give 2 U’.
Huxley’s smooth-to-rugged ratio also satisfies current deep house rationale, has a feel for ’90s 4×4 garage, and includes a wee bit of drum ‘n’ bass and post-dubstep that you won’t begrudge.
Power drifting through the gears and with cutting-edge in hand, this is a shoe-in contender for house album of the year – clear and distinct, all the way through.
