Great writing and clever concepts...
Homeboy Sandman - Hallways

Coming off the back of a series of EPs that each stuck with the same producer, it’s great to hear Homeboy Sandman return to full-length ways, demonstrating his ability to adapt to a variety of beats that range from Jonwayne’s thumping lead single ‘America, the Beautiful’ to Jozef van Wissem’s sparse acoustic guitar on ‘Unraveling’.

Through careful sequencing, Sandman fulfils the aim he described to Clash back in March, of creating a cohesive record with multiple producers. No pyrotechnics required: Sandman constructs a straightforward yet creative hip-hop record.

‘Hallways’ demonstrates great writing, clever concepts, varying flow patterns and a solid ear for organic production – all of which nudges the boundaries without straying too far away.

8/10
