At first listen Hello Wembley sound like a dozen other indie bands with their heavy yob accents and plain riffs.
But closer inspection of the Reading band’s debut single Up Great Britain reveals it as both a wicked satire and stomping rock tune. Singer Alex Waring unleashes the full force of his doleful sarcasm, bemoaning the state of modern Britain with lyrics like “there are bombs in shoes / nobody cares cos they’ve got iTunes”. The rock’n’roll riffs are wilfully dumb but backing singer Debbie Howard provides a bold soul touch to the chorus. Puts a smile on your face.
