Frightened Rabbit – Midnight Organ Fight

A marked progression for the band

Less than six months since Fat Cat released their remastered debut, the eccentric trio are back with their sophomore effort.

A marked progression for the band – songs like ‘My Backwards Walk,’ ‘Extrasupervery’ and ‘Fast Blood’ feature more fleshed out musical arrangements with tinkling keyboards, undulating melodies, expansive drumming and inventive guitar work. And while the album has allowed them to grow- the bands rickety charm is still intact to satisfy the purists as evident in the country twang of ‘Good Arms vs Bad Arms.’ What is really striking about the album however is the imagery that runs through it – as suggested by the title and without being sexual or sleazy – it is of the body. Scott Hutchinson’s affirming lyrics and plaintive voice manage to translate a wealth of emotion and along with the weighty soundtrack – the album is true effort of the body, heart and head and as such it really gets under your skin.
