Having farted around with jazz drummer Steve Reid on the lacklusre Exchange Sessions EPs, Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet, gets back to business with this brilliant four track EP.
If the Exchange Sessions was like listening to a meandering jam session, then the Ringer EP is hearing the finished, focused final product. From the pulsing electro opening of the title track the music feels less obscure despite the epic nature of the tracks. Gone is the fractured techno replaced by fluid, mellow four-four tempos that set up his more familiar music box melodies. Thirty minutes of electronic bliss.
