FM Belfast – Brighter Days

This third album is drenched in bold, colourful beats...

Matter formed under pressure possesses innate strength. And it was beneath Iceland’s melting economy and the terrifying unknown of 2009 that FM Belfast smashed the Clash Stage at Iceland Airwaves.

We’d never seen a more inclusive or fatalistic party. And thus this Reykjavík-based electro-pop ‘supergroup’ remains one of Clash’s guilty pleasures.

This third album is drenched in bold, colourful beats and kitsch, cliquey lyrics angled at jiving, camp mosh-pits. ‘Everything’ and ‘Holiday’ are as naïve as the green aurora borealis above their studio – and they even find time to hurl some pastiche at Diplo and Daft Punk. Come dive in: this sonic jacuzzi is ready for flight.

7/10
