‘Prince Avalanche’ is a succulent cinematic ménage a trois between Texan post-rock instrumentalists Explosions In The Sky, film composer David Wingo and director David Gordon Green, in their first collaboration together.
We’re presented with a strangely distant, detached soundtrack, more fluid and pensive in mood than is usual, than might be expected given the players.
It feels unanchored and tremulous, without EITS’s signature drums – but it’s still beautiful, reminiscent of the recent atmospheric work that Mogwai scored for French TV series ‘Les Revenants’.
