Either it’s the flashing lights, the colliding limbs or the bone shuddering electro, but you always know when Erol Alkan has entered the building.
The debut night of Scotland’s newest dance club saw over 1000 dedicated souls cram in to bear witness to a very special set by electro wunderkind Alkan. Now free from his Trash moniker, the DJ has moved on with the beats getting thicker and filthier.
With superb support slots from some up and coming Scottish DJs who certainly know which way round the stylus goes the pressure was very much on. Emerging from stage right, pausing only to wipe a few threads of jet black hair from his forehead, the DJ proved within seconds that all the hipster hype is worth it.
A stunning set follows, as the dancefloor explodes in that rare manner peculiar to Scottish clubbers. Sweat fills the air, perfect strangers lock arms and the bar runs out of booze. Well, you can’t win them all.
After an hour and a half of ear piercing electro, and a few of his special re-edits, Alkan disappears – to the outrage of the crowd who immediately chant his name. As fate would have it, the DJ had a few more discs in his bag, uniting the crowd in another fantastic roar of approval.
With t-shirts bearing his name on the hide of every wannabe disco kid, and DJs across the land aping his sets, its astonishing that Erol Alkan can still retain that individual touch. Whether its down to his own remixes, or his near telepathic reading of the dancefloor, it doesn’t matter – Erol keeps kids dancing, and that’s what they want.
