Eight years on from career low point ‘This New Day’ and freed from a treadmill focused on churning out palatable, middle-of-the-road indie rock, Embrace have certainly had time to reconsider their position.
An eponymous album normally signifies a rebirth, and so it proves across these 10 strikingly powerful songs. Danny McNamara’s distinctive vocals soar once more on ‘Quarters’ and ‘Protection’, the latter a surging, rumbling return to the fray, which kicks off the album and evokes the passion of their early days.
Self-produced and melding electronic elements to their more conventional methods, this is a record by a band that has fallen in love with making music again.
