Yet another band forged in the dark shadow of the early-Eighties, London-based Dualist arrive dressed in the emotional garb of Joy Division and sporting the post-punk rat-a-tat guitar attack of Gang Of Four.
Throughout you’ll feel the tingle of déjà vu – the black threads, the suitably gloomy declarations and sheer damn earnestness of it all – we’ve been here before, haven’t we? Yet, even whilst they’re conspicuously failing to exhibit a single iota of originality, Dualist prove themselves exemplary students of the form.
The ten tracks are crafted with precision – from the slow, claustrophobic build of ‘Coma’ to the thrashy splurge of ‘The One’, the quartet shift through the gears effortlessly. Pity, though, that the terrain is all too familiar.
