Sporadically engaging
Digitalism - I Love You, Dude

There’s little room for subtlety in Digitalism’s world. The German house-rock duo are thinking big, and every second of ‘I Love You, Dude’ is built for total warehouse domination. Played loud it’s a crushing wall of sound; earth-shaking beats, screaming synths and acid bleepage. Alas, they have competition in the form of Justice. And while this has its moments - there’s no arguing with lead-off single ‘2 Hearts’ - it’s not Cross. That record was big and clever. ‘I Love You, Dude’, in comparison, feels as blunt and oafish as its name, and weirdly dated in its sonic palette. Sporadically engaging, but sadly nothing more.
