A life-affirming album of indie anthemia
City Reign - Another Step

Despite having recording sessions at Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church interrupted by a funeral after the priest double-booked the altar, Manchester’s City Reign have a life-affirming album of indie anthemia committed to tape. The searing guitar screeches of early Oasis (minus any ladrock swagger) mix with The National’s introspective edge to land a weighted first step on rock’s nefarious road to success.

There are enough gears for the journey, from the strippedback string quartet on emotive standout ‘Retaliate’ to an unrelenting maelstrom of riffs on ‘Anchor’. It’s unashamedly indie at an unfashionable time, but City Reign will strive to be more than a cool fad anyway.
