The first single from American singer Cass McCombs’ forthcoming album Dropping The Writ, kicks off with an absolutely rollicking bass line.
It’s a soothing, yet insistent rumble that seems like it’s off on great adventures and this song is its conduit. McCombs’ dreamy, high-pitched voice bears tales of journeys “down south” and a sweet slide guitar drifts in and out, but everything else feels incidental compared to that quietly raging rhythm pulsing through you. It’s almost a shame McCombs didn’t try to do more with the song but you have to admire his confidence in a perfect bass line.
