Cadence Weapon is 22-year old Canadian rapper Rollie Pemberton who combines an idiosyncratic flow with four-to-the-floor house beats.
It has much in common with the early 90’s brief flirtation with hip-house, but instead of the dodgy Euro dance and pedestrian rapping rolled out by groups like Technotronic and Snap, you get Pemberton’s superior barrage of beats, synths and lyrics. The first single from his second album Afterparty Babies, In Search Of The Youth Crew is retro but fresh, simple but manic and ultimately pretty damn addictive.
