If a large bunch of people armed with guitars, drums, fiddles and a vaguely political message makes you think of The Levellers it’s not a bad comparison for Scottish seven-piece Broken Records.
Actually to be fair, on this their debut single, the singer sounds remarkably like Brandon Flowers from The Killers, but imagine the latter replacing their glitzy Las Vegas side with the earthier, knitted jumper tones of The Waterboys. Ultimately it’s all a bit too raggle-taggle and the song’s sweeter moments tend to get lost under the forceful strings and winsome vocals. Great title though.
