Blood Red Shoes – You Bring Me Down

It’s almost upbeat

Brighton duo Blood Red Shoes’ latest single reveals a greater diversity of styles than previous single I Wish I Was Someone Better suggested.

The guitar riffs are preppy and the driving hi-hat and beat wouldn’t be out of place on a techno record. It’s almost upbeat, though you knew they couldn’t resist being gloomy as an explosion of rage is released on the brilliantly shouty chorus. And having done so, there’s no return to those happy times and only a rumbling middle eight breaks up the pulsating repetition of the chorus. Teenage misery is rarely this thrilling.
